PURPOSE : To establish the responsibility, and procedures for the optimum and safe management of patients requiring Anaesthesia care and to ensure the safe administration of anesthetic and sedative agents.

 Anesthesia services:

Provide state of the art anesthesia service to all type of surgery in twelve (12) operating rooms, Six (6) outside OR locations.

It includes, but not limited to the following:

  • Patient evaluation before surgery. Performing & documenting a pre-anaesthetic assessment & evaluation of the patient including requesting consultations & diagnostic studies, selecting, obtaining, ordering or administrating pre-anaesthetic medications & fluid, & obtaining informed consent for Anaesthesia.
     
  • Anaesthetic plan. Developing & administrating an anaesthetic plan, which may include general Anaesthesia, regional Anaesthesia, or the use of both, & intravenous sedation.
     
  • Patient’s Safety during surgery. Selecting, obtaining or administrating the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, & fluids necessary to manage the anaesthetic, to maintain the patient’s physiologic homeostasis, & to correct responses to the anaesthetic or surgery.
     
  • Patient’s monitoring during surgery. Selecting, applying or inserting appropriate non invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for collecting & interpreting Pt’s physiological data.
     
  • Patient’s Ventilation during surgery. Appropriately managing airway.
     
  • Post Anaesthesia Patient’s Care. Managing emergence & recovery from Anaesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering or administrating medications, fluids, or ventilator support, in order to obtain physiologic haemostasis, to provide relief from pain, anaesthesia side effects, & to prevent or manage complications.
     
  • Patient’s Discharge from Recovery Room. Releasing or discharging patients from a post anaesthesia care area, & providing post anaesthesia follow up evaluation & appropriate care.
     
  • Pain Management. Ordering, initiating or modifying pain relief therapy, through the utilization of appropriate diagnostic & therapeutic modalities. And consultative services for pain management
     
  • CPR. Responding to cardio pulmonary emergency situations.
     
  • ICU Care. Consultative care for the critically ill.
     
  • Quality Assurance. Participation in a planned quality assurance program for evaluation of quality and appropriateness of patient care and resolving identified problems.


 Anesthetist’s Responsibilities:

  • Pre-anaesthetic evaluation and treatment
  • Medical management of patients and their anaesthetic procedures
  • Post anaesthetic evaluation and treatment


 Guidelines for Anaesthesia Care: The same quality of anaesthetic care should be available for all patients:

  • 24 hour a day, seven days a week
  • Emergency as well as elective patients
  • Medical and surgical patients.
