Whether it is called diagnostic imaging, radiology or x-ray, this field has blossomed as doctors use it more often to confirm diagnosis.

Jordan Hospital offers many options from traditional x ray to sophisticated Radiology Modalities and provides a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services to both inpatients and outpatient, including:

■ Two CT machines

■ Two MRI machines

■ Three High resolution ultrasound machines and one portable ultrasound machine.

■ Two Digital X ray machines and Four X- ray portable machines.

■ Two Digital fluoroscopy machines,

■ Five C-arm for X ray imaging in theatre rooms

■ Digital Mammography

All Diagnostic Imaging procedures require a written order from a physician.

Many services require appointments in advanced.

Since different facilities may use different preparations, it is important to follow the instructions provided by Jordan Hospital like information for preparation and arrival time.

What is Diagnostic Imaging?

Imaging procedures utilize ionizing radiation to produce images of various parts of the body. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance do not produce ionizing radiation.  These images are used by radiologists and your physician to diagnose, or aid in the diagnoses, of various medical conditions.

Diagnostic Radiology

Radiology utilizes radiation to produce images. Routine diagnostic procedures are performed during the following hours :

Saturday through Thursday,  8: 00 am to 7 pm.

Emergency procedures are available twenty four hours per day through Jordan Hospital Emergency department.

Certain procedures, which require a radiologist to be present, should be done according to an appointment. A radiologist is a physician specialized in diagnostic imaging. Some examples are upper GI series, Barium enemas, IVP’s and Arthrograms.

Computerized Tomography (CT)

A full range of computerized Tomography (CT) procedures are offered. Two multi-slice helical scanners produce cross sectional images of any anatomical area of interest.

This technology also provides extremely rapid scanning. Intravenous CT contrast is administered as needed. A separate workstation provides 3D and CT angiography capability.

A full staff technologist is available.

All outpatient CT procedures require an appointment. Appointments for all procedures are available seven days a week. In addition, certain examinations can be performed on weekday evenings.

Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI)

·        A full range of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedure are offered.

·        Multi-planar images of the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine and joints. Magnetic resonance Angiography (MRA) is provided for evaluation of the abdominal, neck extremity and intracranial vessels.

All outpatient procedures require an appointment. Appointments for all procedures are available at Jordan Hospital Radiology Department Front disc seven days a week. In addition, certain examinations can be performed at Jordan Hospital on weekday evenings.

Ultrasound examinations utilize high frequency sound waves to create cross sectional images of soft tissue organs. There is no radiation involved with this test. Imaging of the abdomen and pelvis as well as the breast, thyroid, testicles, the pregnant uterus and veins in the extremities as well as special procedure such as biopsy and drainage under ultrasound guidance are performed.

A small smooth object is placed on the skin to generate images. The exam is painless. While many exams have no preparation, other requires fasting or drinking of water. Preparation will be provided by the reception staff at the time of schedule.

All outpatient Ultrasound procedures require an appointment and a written order.

Appointments for all procedures are available on weekdays. In addition, certain examination can be performed on weekday evening.

Mammography is a type of imaging that uses x ray system for examination of the breasts, for early detection of breast cancer.

Mammography is offered to all patients for screening and diagnostic purposes.

Patients should not use deodorant or powder prior to their appointment. The patient should bring old mammograms with them.

Scheduling is available weekdays and some weeknights.

Angiography is a type of x-ray that is performed to Image blood vessels in various parts of the body, including the heart brain, chest, abdomen, lower limbs and kidneys, to determine whether the vessels are diseased, narrowed, enlarged or blocked altogether. After passing a catheter through an artery leading to the area being evaluated, contrast is injected to highlight the vessels while x- Ray  is taken. Today, many catheter angiography studies have been replaced by less invasive methods, such as computed tomography angiography  ( CTA )  and magnetic resonance  angiography ( MRA ) , that do not require that a catheter be inserted. Both CTA and MRA and cardiac CTA are available at Jordan Hospital. Catheter angiography is still widely used in patients who may undergo surgery, angioplasty, or stent placement.
